The microphone is not working
iPhone: Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and allow BirdTalk. If BirdTalk is not listed, reopen the app and tap Start Listening to trigger the permission request.
Mac: Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, enable BirdTalk, then quit and reopen the app. Mac mini has no built-in microphone; use an external input or a Continuity Camera iPhone microphone.
Why can’t iPhone listen while locked?
BirdTalk treats iPhone as a foreground interaction tool. Keeping listening in the foreground avoids unnecessary background recording and battery use. A Mac can serve as the more stable at-home companion station.
How should I record comfort phrases?
Choose a scene and record 3–5 short phrases at a natural pace in a quiet room. Avoid sudden volume changes and frequent looping. Stop immediately if your bird retreats, crashes around the cage, or keeps screaming.
How do I delete everything?
In BirdTalk, open Bird → Privacy & Support → Delete All Local Data. This removes profiles, journals, feedback, settings, and your recordings. The developer cannot restore them. Uninstalling the app also removes its local container.
Purchases and refunds
BirdTalk is available on the App Store. Apple handles payments, receipts, and refunds; visit Report a Problem to review purchases or request a refund.
Is this a medical or translation tool?
No. BirdTalk offers sound-supported behavioral-state hypotheses for everyday observation. It cannot translate calls word for word, diagnose disease, provide treatment, or replace an avian veterinarian.
